Program Information
Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling
Emphasis in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling (MCFC) is a 67 credit hour nationally accredited (CACREP) program. Graduates of the specialization in the MCFC area of emphasis are able to deal effectively with the variety of issues and family constellations. Students receive in-depth training in conceptualization skills as well as the theoretical and practical application of systems theory. Aside from formal coursework, graduate students have the opportunity to intern in the Downing Counseling Clinic, located within the College of Education and Human Development. The clinic serves as a low-cost clinic for the surrounding community.
The MCFC program takes approximately three years of full-time enrollment (including summers). If you would like to go slower, you will need to determine how you will work course progression, as you cannot take courses out of order.
Clinical Mental Health Counseling
The clinical mental health counseling emphasis is a 67 credit hour nationally accredited (CACREP) program. The purpose of this extensive training is to prepare future clinicians for working with individuals in the community. Students in our program receive in-depth training in clinical issues, conceptualization skills and treatment planning. The emphasis strives to provide the necessary self-awareness, knowledge and skills to effectively deliver individualized treatment in the community.

School Counseling
The school counseling emphasis is a 67 credit hour nationally accredited (CACREP) program. The school counseling emphasis focuses on the developmental model of school counseling. School counselor students take the core counseling curriculum, as well as specialty courses in the foundation of school counseling, counseling and guidance program development, and consultation. The emphasis strives to provide the necessary self-awareness, knowledge, and skills to effectively deliver a comprehensive counseling emphasis. Completion of the emphasis qualifies students for licensure as a school counselor in Nevada.
