Rural Education Initiative

Financial Support for COEHD Student Teachers in Nevada’s Rural Districts

In partnership with the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, the Rural Education Initiative is an important endeavor to bolster Nevada rural school districts. By offering assistance in the form of stipends to interested and qualified students, the initiative will help build a robust pipeline of talented teachers who seek placement in Nevada rural school districts for their student teaching and ultimately, permanent teaching positions. The minimum value of stipends of $500 for the semester of student teaching.

Apply for the Rural Education Stipend

Eligible Applicants Must Meet the Following Criteria:

  1. Be enrolled in a teacher preparation program at the 推荐杏吧原创 College of Education and Human Development.
  2. Be already placed in a student teaching experience within a Nevada rural school district.
  3. Plan to pursue a career as a full-time teacher in a Nevada rural school district after graduation and securing a Nevada teaching license.
  4. Have completed all requirements for their undergraduate degree except for their student teaching experience.

Preference will be given to the teacher candidates in any of the following high need areas:

  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Special Education
  • Cultural/linguistic diversity
  • Willingness to teach in one of the rural school districts (especially small rural school districts with less than 1,000 students) that are located 50 miles or more from major metropolitan areas and outside of the Truckee Meadows region of Nevada.

Definition of Nevada Rural School District: For the purpose of this stipend, and Nevada school district with a student enrollment of 6,500 students or less is defined as a rural school district. Preference for student teaching placement will be given to those school districts that are also located 50 miles or more from major metropolitan areas and outside of the Truckee Meadows region of Nevada.
