Pack Rides policies and penalties

We will provide efficient, quality service to students, faculty and staff of the 推荐杏吧原创. Our core values include the following.

  • Safety
  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Community
  • Responsibility

Who can use Pack Rides

Students, staff, faculty and other 推荐杏吧原创 affiliated individuals who have WolfCards are allowed to use our service. Minors are not allowed in our vehicles due to governmental guidelines. We cannot transport any individual who is not individually affiliated with the 推荐杏吧原创 e.g. family members, spouses, or friends who don’t attend the University.

Restrictions on Pack Rides services

To ensure we are best allocating our resources to meet our priorities, we have some restrictions on our service:

  • Pack Rides will abide by all State and Federal laws.
  • Pack Rides will travel no farther than a predetermined three-mile boundary from the perimeter of the main campus.
  • A property or recognized unit of the 推荐杏吧原创 (including University-affiliated Greek houses) must be the start or end of a trip.
  • No third-party commercial business can be the start or end of a trip with the exceptions of:
    • Walgreen’s (750 N Virginia St.). Must be a round trip from an on-campus dorm hall.
    • RTC bus station (200 E 4th St.). Must include an on-campus dorm hall as a pick-up or drop-off location.
    • Reno Amtrak Station (280 University Way). Must include an on-campus dorm hall as a pick-up or drop-off location.
  • Pack Rides will not pick up from or drop off at parties. If you, or anyone you are with will be intoxicated, do not rely on Pack Rides as a way home. Please plan ahead and designate a sober driver or use an alternate method of transportation.
  • Callers who attempt to circumvent policy by requesting pick-up or drop-off at a serviceable location with the intention of walking or requesting a ride to another location will be denied service and flagged (walk-on/walk-off).

Walk-on/Walk-off definition

Pack Rides is a point-to-point service. This means the location you place as your pick-up and drop-off must be the location you are going to.

  • Walking to your pick-up from a different location than you claimed is defined as a “walk-on.”
  • Walking away from your drop-off to get to an unserviceable location is defined as a “walk-off.”

Walk-ons and walk-offs are against our policies and will result in a violation notice.

Prohibited items

In accordance with Nevada State Law and University Policy.

  • Alcohol
  • Nicotine products and smoking devices (vapes, e-cigarettes, etc.)
  • Fireworks/incendiaries
  • Radioactive and corrosive materials
  • Animals, excluding service animals
  • Explosives
  • Compressed gasses
  • Flammables
  • Oxidizers
  • Poisons
  • Batteries
  • All other items are listed in the Student Code of Conduct

Denial of service

Callers who attempt to circumvent policy by requesting pick-up or drop-off at a serviceable location with the intention of walking or requesting a ride to another location will be denied service.

Callers who repeatedly attempt to circumvent these policies cause a disruption to the service and will receive a violation notice from the Director of External Development. Continued abuse of the system may result in having Pack Rides privileges revoked.

Violations

If a rider violates any of our policies or tries to circumvent our limitations, they will receive a violation email from our Director of External Development. Penalizes may range from a warning to loss of access to our service, depending on the severity and number of violations.

Violations work on a rolling point system. The more points a rider accumulates, the higher the penalty. Once a rider reaches 50 points, their access to our service will be restricted for the remainder of the semester. The rider will be made aware of how many points they have accumulated via the violation email they receive.

The person who books the ride is responsible for possible violations.

The first offense will be a warning with no points associated, as long as it does not include a prohibited item or require special attention from Center for Student Engagement staff.

Common violations and points

10 Walk-on/Walk-off
10 Rude behaviors toward staff or other riders
20 Possession of prohibited item(s)

Anything outside the scope of the common violations listed above will be handled on a case-by-case basis by our Director of External Development and Center for Student Engagement Staff. Potential penalties could range from a warning to loss of access to our service.

Inclement weather protocol

ASUN Pack Rides reserves the right to stop service if inclement weather or road conditions jeopardize the ability of the service to operate safely. While not all inclement weather-related shutdowns can be anticipated, the following protocol is in place:

  • During service hours, weather and road conditions will be evaluated every 30 minutes
  • Updates will be sent out through ASUN social media as early as possible
  • Alerts sent to the front desk in the Joe Crowley Student Union, Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center or E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center

Once service has been shut down, a message will be broadcast on the PackTransport mobile app and the Pack Rides phone will be updated.
