Services and facilities

Laundry

Located in each residence hall are washers and dryers available for the convenient use of our residents. There is no charge for using these machines, nor do students have to use a mobile application. Please review the instructions in each laundry room on how to use the equipment.

Students will be able to download the "WASH-Connect" app (signage in laundry rooms have more information) in order to:

  • View the availability of machines from anywhere in the residence hall
  • Receive real-time notifications and alerts when laundry is done
  • Submit service requests if something is wrong with a machine

Internet access

All residence halls have been retrofitted with robust WiFi.  This internet access is a part of the campus system and available to each student at no additional cost. While this wireless internet is ideal for most college purposes, we recommend using your in-room wired ethernet connection for other high-bandwidth functions.

All campus network usage policies apply and bandwidth may be restricted. Make sure to read the policies covering the use of the residence hall network and we encourage students to read and know these policies prior to connecting to the network. You can  from the Office of Information Technology.

Internet access

Most of the major cellular service companies (e.g. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile) provide service on-campus.  However, signal strength varies depending on cell tower location and building construction.  We recommend activating WiFi calling on your smartphone to enable sending and receiving calls over the campus wireless network when in buildings with poor signal strength.  For more details please visit the information page for each of the cellular providers listed below:

The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver to the residence halls. Located on campus is a United States Post Office where students may rent a post office box by contacting (775) 348-2090.

Changing bed height

The bed frames across campus can be raised and lowered (four adjustable heights) or bunked. Students are permitted to rearrange their rooms how they like, but at move-out, the room must be returned to what it looked like at move-in.

Raising and lowering bed frames

Students can raise or lower the bed frames in their room without tools. Headboards and footboards are separate from the mattress spring. The mattress spring has hooks that hook onto bars within the headboard and footboard. These beds are very stable at all adjusted heights.

The highest height for a single bed frame is called "Captain's Height" which will allow a dresser to slide underneath.

Bunking beds

Students can also bunk the bed frames in their room without tools. To bunk the bed, the student will need to visit the front desk in their building to get 4 Bed Bunking Pins. If students need assistance, a Work Request can be placed.

Lofting beds

"Lofting" a bed means a single bed frame is set upon an additional headboard and footboard; with additional framing pieces to provide a stable lofted bed. Based on the housing configuration, we are unable to allow lofting beds on campus. In the past, we could provide lofting kits at Peavine Hall, but we no longer have the inventory needed for this room setup. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Bed Risers

Another way to increase the height of a bed is by using "bed risers" commonly found at many retailers.  These are generally plastic, wood, or concrete items placed under each bed leg that allow a bed to be 4", 8", and in some cases 10-12" off the ground.  These risers are not permitted at UNR due to the safety risk they may pose.
