Winter break housing

Applications for winter break and Wintermester housing will open on November 1. Be sure to submit your application by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Housing assignments, terms and fees

While many students head elsewhere for winter break from December 19, 2024, to January 17, 2025, we will offer limited on-campus housing for students with special circumstances that necessitate staying on campus. There is an additional fee for Winter Break/Wintermester housing. Additionally, since many of our student staff members will be away, we will not be able to fully staff all residence hall front desks during the break.

To balance residents need for housing during this time frame with limited staff, we will be consolidating residents into quadruple occupancy rooms in Sierra Hall, which feature in-room bathrooms. If needed, we may also utilize overflow rooms in a secondary building, which we’ll confirm in early December. Overflow rooms in a secondary building may require you to stay in a space that is partially vacant with additional expectations required.  Our goal is to allow residents living in a building used for Winter Break housing to remain in their room for the break, but due to space needs, temporary or permanent relocation to another room may occur.

These temporary, consolidated housing assignments over winter break will provide students with continuous access to a 24/7 service desk and dedicated Residential Life staff, ensuring all safety protocols are upheld.

Here is some important information about consolidated housing during this extended break period:

  • You’ll receive your housing assignment on or around Friday, December 10.
  • Students who apply for break housing after December 1 will be waitlisted and may not be accommodated, so be sure to apply before the deadline.
  • Please relocate to your temporary Winter Break housing assignment starting Thursday, December 19, with all moves completed by Friday, December 20 at 12 p.m. (noon).
  • While you do not need to remove all belongings, we recommend bringing along your essentials and materials you’ll need for your courses.

Important payment information

  • The total housing charge for this period is $640, which will be applied to your account in early December and will be due before December 19.
    • Please note that this fee is applicable for any stay during the time frame of December 19 to January 17, with no pro-rated amounts available.
    • Timely payment is essential, failure to settle the charge by the deadlines may lead to the cancellation of your winter break application.
  • If this amount is not paid by the deadline, your application may be terminated, making you ineligible for winter break housing.

Cancellation policy

You have the option to cancel your winter break housing application for a full refund until December 15. If you decided to cancel after this date, you will still be responsible for the full winter break housing payment outlined in the license agreement available in your Winter Break/Wintermester housing application.

Move out reminder

Winter Break housing concludes on Thursday, January 16. Relocation back to your academic year assignment takes place on Thursday, January 16 between 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (noon), ensuring your move is completed no later than 12 p.m. (noon).
