University Disability Advocacy Committee

Mission

The University Disability Advocacy Committee (UDAC) is composed of faculty, staff and students who advocate for disability awareness and training at the University. The committee reports to the President through the University Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

Goals

Building evacuation training

In collaboration with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), UDAC supports the effort of campus building evacuations as they pertain to students and employees with disabilities by coordinating efforts to identify one Able Bodied Volunteer (ABV) per department. This volunteer will assist and facilitate the evacuation of individuals in need of assistance. UDAC will train ABVs to use the evacuation equipment.

Disability awareness training and facilitation

In collaboration with the Office of Digital Learning and Library Services, UDAC prepares orientation packets that detail resources and procedures available on campus and explain the process for working with the Disability Resource Center.

Useful resources

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is dedicated to providing a coordinated program of support services which are not furnished by other university offices or outside organizations. The DRC assists students in negotiating disability related barriers and strives to improve access and opportunity. This enables all levels of students with disabilities to become integrated into campus life, and become more successful undergraduate or graduate students while maximizing their independence. DRC services are free of charge.
