IT Systems Manager

Summary

Richard Bednarski is the IT systems manager at the Reynolds School of Journalism.

Before he joined the Reynolds School as a faculty member, he completed his master's degree in media innovation from the Reynolds School in the fall of 2021. During his time as a student, he covered the affordable housing crisis, the unhoused community, local environmental issues and more. Prior to this, he did everything from cooking in restaurants to archaeology and conservation work.

With a background in anthropology and photography, Richard continues to work as a  creating science and environment-related stories. As a storyteller, he works with video, photography and writing to craft stories focused on not just the problems but how people overcome adversity and reach an ending focused on success and solutions.

  • Cinematographer, Editor, "Piconland," an award-winning internationally screened documentary film about a potent and iconic cocktail ritual invented by American West immigrants, 2021
  • Contributor covering the environment, agriculture, climate change, and justice issues with a local focus. , Sierra Nevada Ally, The New Lede, The Xylom
  • Currently, he is working on an oral history and book of a local Nevada-centric conservation group that has helped gain protection for millions of acres across the state.
