Moving services
Moving Services focuses on moving of office furniture and delivering tables and chairs for campus events. We also dispose of and recycle old furniture as directed by Surplus Property and supervision, deliver large shipments from Central Receiving and assist the Facilities Maintenance Services teams in hauling away debris from work sites.
To dispose of a University-owned refrigerator that was purchased using University funds, please fill out the . Otherwise, the disposal of personally owned refrigerators is the responsibility of the owner.
On a first come, first served basis, Facilities Maintenance Services has 6 foot tables and blue folding chairs for University use. These items are available for drop off and pick up only. Set-up is not provided.
If you are planning a University event:
- Submit a work order request and include, “ATTN MOVERS”, the drop-off location, date, contact person, time of the event, and pick-up date and time.
- Location, sprinklers, and electrical needs should be considered in scheduling an event.
- Moving Services requires at least 10 working days of advanced notification so they may schedule accordingly.
- Contact Scheduling Services at (775) 784-6837 to reserve the location of the event at least 21 days in advance.
- Events in Residential Housing are not able to request tables or chairs.
Submit a work order request and include ATTN MOVERS:
- Department moves of more than 3 people, must be completed by a third party vendor. Contact the Service Center at (775) 784-8020 if you have any questions.
- Make sure to include all items being moved (e.g., 20 boxes, three (3) desks with typing arms, three (3) chair pads, etc.) so movers can schedule accordingly.
- Furniture needs to be disassembled by the requestor or an outside contractor, provided by Facilities Maintenance Services (FMS) at the departments’ expense. (The only exception is if the item(s) are going to Surplus.)
- Televisions and/or smart boards will only be moved if they are in their original packaging or packed properly.
- If whiteboards, wall embellishments, televisions, or smartboards need to be removed and/or hung, submit a work order request and include ATTN CARPENTERS.
- If cabinets and/or bookshelves need to be unsecured or secured before or after a move, submit a work order request and include ATTN CARPENTERS. (All furniture 4.5 feet or taller must be secured per the FMS Planned General Inspection Checklist.)
- Upon receipt of the work order, Moving Services will call to schedule a move date and time that is convenient for both parties.
- Lead times for moving requests are two weeks; however, due to budget restrictions and reduction in staff, timeframes are longer than usual. Please be patient and flexible in scheduling your move.
- Have everything ready prior to mover arrival, or they may have to reschedule.
- Moves to buildings leased to the University are not permitted. Please contact an outside, licensed, insured, or bonded moving company to perform these moves into leased buildings.
- For relocation of phones, contact Telephone and Voicemail Services at (775) 682-5000.
- For relocation of fax and copy machines, contact the Copier Program at (775) 784-4620.

All moves performed by Moving Services are made at the requestor’s own risk. Moving Services is not responsible for damage caused by accidents.
Office move guidelines
- Computers must be moved by the department requesting the move or by contacting the Information Technology Help Desk at (775) 682-5000. All computers must be moved prior to the movers' arrival.
- Draw furniture layouts and tape layouts to doors so movers can move the furniture back.
- Boxes must be closed and sealed.
- Mark all boxes, furniture, etc. with the room number(s). (e.g. "Room 202 - Mary")
- This information should be placed on all desks, chairs, and all furnishings and boxes
- Standard file cabinets do not need to be emptied.
- Lateral file cabinets must be emptied prior to the move.
- Bookcases and storage cabinets must be emptied prior to the move.
- Desks must be emptied prior to the move.
- Moving Services is not responsible for particle board furniture. (this type of furniture does not move well and tends to fall apart)
- Moving Services does not move plants, pictures, or personal belongings.
- Moving Services does not move copy machines. (Contact the Campus Copier Program at (775) 784-4620.)
- Moving Services does not unpack, uncrate, unpalletized or assemble any equipment, new or used.
- If the room is scheduled to be painted, remove all pictures and mounted shelves (unless permanent) from the walls.
- Refrigerators must be emptied prior to the move.
- It is the office's responsibility for large office moves that may require rental trucks to be used.
- Moving Services does not supply boxes.
Submit a work order request and include ATTN MOVERS:
- Make sure to include all items being moved (e.g., 20 boxes, three (3) desks with typing arms, three (3) chair pads, etc.) so movers can schedule accordingly.
- All glass needs to be packed and marked clearly FRAGILE GLASS on boxes.
- Fume hoods must have a document, on letterhead, from the department stating the fume hood has been thoroughly cleaned by a lab representative.
- Moving Services does not unpack or assemble fume hoods. If a fume hood needs to be disassembled or assembled before or after a move, contact an outside, licensed, insured, or bonded contractor, licensed with the State of Nevada.
- Moving Services does not unpack, uncrate, unpalletized or assemble any lab equipment, new or used.
- Moving Services does not move large equipment, including large air/optical tables. Please contact an outside, licensed, insured, or bonded moving company to perform these moves.
- The Moving Department personnel can only move chemicals that are in original packaging from the manufacturer. For loose chemicals, contact Environmental Health & Safety at (775) 327-5040.
- Gas cylinders need to be moved by vendors.
