Flexible and Competitive Healthcare Coverage

With three options to choose from, the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Healthcare Plan aims to support healthy lifestyles and greater financial security.

Coverage information

  • Medical services under all plan options offer quality medical care and worldwide emergency coverage. The plan design options vary in the way that you choose your healthcare providers and facilities and how you pay for qualified medical expenses.
  • Employees are responsible for the monthly premium for the coverage level chosen. Premiums are deducted through pre-tax payroll deductions.
  • The medical package offered is a comprehensive medical package that includes your choice of a health insurance plan and Dental Insurance.
  • NSHE has one dental plan, administered by . Dental coverage is part of the comprehensive medical package and is only available when you enroll in a medical health insurance plan.

Healthcare Plans Available

Consumer-Driven High-Deductible (CDHP-PPO) Global Plan

This open-access plan is available to participants residing or working in both Northern and Southern Nevada and has preferred providers in all states. The Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP) is a qualified high-deductible health plan coupled with a tax-favored health savings account (HSA) or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). Individuals covered as “self-only” have an individual deductible amount and those covered as “family” (self plus one other individual) have a family deductible.

PEBP will provide a contribution each year to your Health Savings Account (HSA) to help with first out-of-pocket medical expenses. Participants may make pre-tax contributions to the HSA account up to the maximum allowable amount for each tax year.

Low-Deductible (LD-PPO) Plan

This plan is available to participants residing nationwide and has preferred providers in all states. The Low Deductible is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan administered by PEBP.

Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) Plan for Northern Nevada

This open access plan is available to participants residing or working in northern Nevada.

Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Plan for Southern Nevada

This open access plan is available to participants residing or working in Southern Nevada.

Continuation of health insurance at termination of employment (COBRA)

In compliance with a federal law commonly called COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act), this plan offers employees, retirees, and their covered dependents the opportunity to elect a temporary continuation of their group health coverage sponsored by PEBP.

Qualified beneficiaries who elect COBRA Continuation Coverage must pay for it at their own expense. Additional definitions and the complete plan documents can be found at .
