Testing policies and procedures
Academic dishonesty
While using the University Testing Center, you are subject to the University’s Academic Standards policy (UAM 6,502) as well as that of your own institution, if applicable. Proctors monitor testing room activity at all times. Suspected misconduct will be reported to your instructor/institution for further action. The Testing Center staff is authorized to dismiss you from your exam for suspected misconduct; this may result in forfeiture of your exam fee, the invalidation of your exam scores, and/or being refused service at the Testing Center in the future.
Exam appointments and walk-in policies
Appointments are not optional. Students must schedule an appointment for all exams. Students who experience technical difficulty and are unable to schedule an appointment should email universitytestingcenter@unr.edu. Walk-ins are only acceptable in situations where the student cannot find a suitable available appointment time (see Walk-in Policy below).
Walk-in policy
During heavy testing weeks (i.e., Midterms and Finals), the center can become fully booked, which impacts appointment availability. If students are unable to schedule an appointment, they may “walk in” and wait for seating to become available. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the Testing Center’s hours of operation. Walk-in testers should plan to wait up to 20-minutes for a seat to become available. When appointment slots are widely available, walk-in testers will be kindly asked to make one on our website.
Check-in procedures
Checking in
Students can check in for their exam one of three ways:
- Via their cellphones using the QR code located in front of the Testing Center.
- Walking into the Testing Center and checking in with the proctor sitting behind the desk.
- Using the Check-in Window (during busier testing weeks only).
Stowing personal items in locker
After checking in and prior to testing, students will need to place all non-testing related items into a locker. Lockers are located down the hall near the men’s restroom.
Non-testing related items include but are not limited to the following:
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Bags, purses, and wallets
- Water bottles
- Hats
- Sunglasses
- Keys
With exception to religious garb, students must remove all headwear while testing. Any additional wearables and personal accessories not listed above should be placed in the locker along with your other personal items.
ID policy
Students must present a University WolfCard, or a valid government ID (e.g., a driver’s license, passport, or military ID) to check in for exams. Secondary forms of identification, such as credit cards, membership cards, or pictures/photocopies of your ID are not acceptable.
Test aides
Instructors determine which test aids, if any, are permitted during the exam. Students who bring incorrect test aides can either reschedule, or test without a test aide. If you’re unsure of what’s allowed, contact your instructor to verify.
Students must label all test aides and scratch paper with their first and last name, as well as the exam name. A proctor will collect all test aids and scratch paper at the end of the test. If any paper-based test aids, such as note cards, are needed for future exams, it’s the students’ responsibility to make copies before arriving at the Testing Center.
Testing procedures
Food and drinks
Food and drinks are not allowed in the testing room. This policy does not apply to students with documented accommodations.
Restroom breaks
Students are advised to use the restroom before checking in for exams. Students who must use the bathroom during a test should notify a proctor before leaving the room. All test aides must remain at the workstation during restroom breaks. Proctors reserve the right to submit exams if students are absent for an extended period.
Check-out procedures
Test completion
When finished, students should log out of the workstation. Students must not attempt to shut down, or hard reset the computer by pressing the power button. Testing Center pens, pencils, and calculators should be placed in the bins in front of the proctoring desk.
Test aide collection
Students must place all test aide materials, including note cards, instructor handouts, and scratch paper into the shred bin before exiting. Exiting the Testing Center with any testing material is a clear violation of University Academic Standards, which can warrant a sanction from your instructor.
Identification
All test takers will be required to present a valid and acceptable form of identification prior to being admitted to their exam session.
Late arrivals
Test takers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their examination appointment. Learn about late arrival policies, canceling and rescheduling appointments.
Finding a proctor
In certain cases, students may need to find a proctor to administer remote exams. Learn more about how to find a proctor for your exams.
User agreement
As a condition of using the University Testing Center, test takers must agree to abide by the following policies, as well as any instructions from a Testing Center staff member.
