Beta Alpha Psi, the Co-Ed professional business fraternity in the College of Business at the 推荐杏吧原创, hosted the annual Meet the Firms Night, an accounting career fair, on Sep. 15.
All undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Business were welcomed to the career fair, especially those interested in pursuing a post-graduate full-time or part-time position in the field of accounting in northern Nevada or the Bay Area in northern California.
Current president of the Beta Alpha Psi fraternity, Kate Wong, is a fourth year accounting major with a triple minor in information systems, business analytics and cybersecurity at the University. Wong took on several responsibilities, which led to a successful accounting career fair on campus, for both the students, as well as the many accounting firms who were invited to attend this year’s event.
“A few personal goals are to keep in contact with all of the recruiters here today and build a solid rapport with everyone I meet. These events are a great way to mingle with professionals to ensure long-lasting connections in business,” Wong said. “As for my fellow members in Beta Alpha Psi and the other students who attended this event, I hope they achieve the same outcome as I did of stepping out of a comfort zone and building those long-lasting professional networks.”
This year, Wong has accepted a full-time position at Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG), an accounting firm and multinational professional services network.
Anastasia Sinkevich, Recruitment Operations Coordinator for Navolio Tallman LLP, was hopeful and excited to meet new and returning students at the University, who were interested in working for the company.
“Navolio Tallman LLP is a small to mid-sized CPA firm specializing in services such as tax planning, business and management advising and auditing and accounting,” Sinkevich said. “Our professionals uphold the highest industry standards and offer advanced knowledge of a ‘Big Four’ accounting firm with personalized service only a smaller firm provides; we are hoping to foster connections with students and keep that conversation going with underclassmen for potential future employment and we are searching for upperclassmen who are willing to work in our two office locations.”
Sinkevich further explains the firm’s expansion within the past two years, extending potential employment and company locations in both northern Nevada, as well as Walnut Creek, California.
“Although our main headquarters is located in Walnut Creek, California, we opened up an office in Reno back in 2021; we have employees who work completely remote, as well as working full-time in Walnut Creek and Reno,” Sinkevich said. “Besides working at our office located in Reno, we also have opportunities for students at the 推荐杏吧原创 who have the flexibility of working at our headquarters in Walnut Creek.”
Sinkevich elaborates on what Navolio Tallman LLP is looking for in their ideal intern or employee, who must also maintain the requirement of a 3.3 GPA.
“We are mainly looking for accounting majors at the University to fill staff accountant positions and internships for the summer and fall; however, we are open to hiring economic and finance majors from the University, as well,” Sinkevich said. “We have a fast-paced work environment, while exposing our new employees to experienced mentors in the field; therefore, we want to hire employees who have a strong willingness to learn and have the ability to pay close attention to detail.”
