推荐杏吧原创 President Brian Sandoval arrived in style yesterday to the Gateway Parking Complex ribbon-cutting ceremony in an original 1960s Batmobile. The event celebrated the completion of the parking complex, which opened to the University community and public today.

“With today’s opening of the Gateway Parking Complex, we have a beautiful pedestrian bridge that doesn’t just connect parking spaces with our campus – it is an invitation, an embrace, of a shared purpose between our community and this campus,” Sandoval said during the event. “This is what the Mathewson University Gateway is all about. Connection, collaboration, contact between a campus and a community.”

  • A grand entrance kicked off the Gateway Parking Complex ribbon-cutting ceremony.
  • President Brian Sandoval arrived at the ribbon-cutting event in an original 1960s Batmobile loaned from the National Automobile Museum.
  • The new parking complex includes a pedestrian bridge on the north end of the garage, allowing people to safely cross Ninth Street onto the University campus.
  • The complex also includes 814 spaces on seven floors.
  • The complex helps further to connect the University to the City of Reno.
  • Nevada Cheer helped to celebrate the completion of the garage at the ribbon-cutting event.
  • The event included several keynote speeches and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, featuring leadership from Nevada System of Higher Education and the University.
  • Following the ribbon-cutting event, guests visited Morrill Hall to learn more about the Mathewson University Gateway Project.

The seven-story complex is located on the southwest corner of Lake and East Ninth Streets in the Mathewson University Gateway. It includes 814 parking spaces for use by University students, faculty, staff and visitors as well as a pedestrian bridge on the north end of the garage, allowing people to safely cross Ninth Street onto the University campus.

“It’s important to note that it is the sense of partnership that exists between our University, the City of Reno, the Regional Transportation of Washoe County and so many other community stakeholders that make days like today possible,” Vice President of Administration and Finance Vic Redding said.

The University broke ground for the parking complex in August 2021. Clark/Sullivan Construction of Sparks was the general contractor for the complex, and it was designed by Watry Design Inc., an architectural firm in San Jose, California, that specializes in parking structures. The complex was primarily funded by parking revenues, and no state funding was used as part of the project.
