Reynolds School of Journalism Dean has been elected to serve on the Executive Committee for the (ASJMC).

Founded in 1917, ASJMC is the educational association of about 190 journalism and mass communication (JMC) programs at the college and university level, primarily in the United States and Canada. ASJMC works to foster standards of excellence in JMC program administration, to partner with media organizations to raise professional standards, to promote public understanding of the role of journalism in democratic society, and to support the accreditation process for JMC units.

The association is directed by an elected, 10-person Executive Committee. Stavitsky was elected earlier this year and began his three-year term at ASJMC's summer meeting. He will represent medium-sized JMC programs on the committee.

"I was honored to be elected by my fellow administrators," Stavitsky said. "Working on the committee will be an opportunity to serve our discipline and to have a seat at the table in dealing with issues that affect the Reynolds School and our peer programs."

Stavitsky has been dean of the Reynolds School since 2012. He also holds the Fred W. Smith Chair in Journalism, and is a Distinguished Scholar on the Library of Congress' Radio Preservation Task Force.
