University Galleries host biennial Valentine Exhibit and Art Auction

Works of art available for purchase by live and silent auction or online

Ansel Adams, a famous 20th century photographer, said, "Art is both the taking and giving of beauty," and this Valentine's Day, more than 120 examples of beauty be available for viewing and taking. 

The biennial Valentine Benefit Exhibition and Art Auction reception will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, at the 推荐杏吧原创. The reception will conclude a week and a half of silent bidding and include a live auction of artwork donated by local, regional and international artists.

"It is all for a great cause," University Galleries Director Paul Baker Prindle said. "The exhibition and auction is an important event that further extends our ability to serve the Great Basin region with quality arts programming and educational activities." 

The masquerade reception is inspired by the French Rococo style like that which distinguished the resplendent Palace of Versailles. Period costume and inspired attire is encouraged.  All artwork on display is available for sale, either through the live, online or silent auction. The live auction will be led by longtime art professor and student advisor from the University's , Howard Rosenberg. 

In addition to the live and silent auctions, more than will be available for online bidding through partnership between University Galleries and Stremmel Gallery. Bids can be made at . 

At the end of the event, art will be distributed to the winners. All auction proceeds fund arts programming in the region, which seeks to foster creativity and cultural literacy in the community.

The reception will be held in Sheppard Contemporary and McNamara Galleries in the University's Church Fine Arts building. Attendance is free and complimentary parking is offered nearby in the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex after 5:30 p.m.
