Celebrating Chanukah with UNR

Anza Jarschke, DEI Specialist at UNR at Lake Tahoe, and Rabbi Dani and Rochel Libersohn, Chabad at UNR, encourage you to come together to celebrate Chanukah with the University at two celebration events

Chanukah, the Jewish wintertime “festival of lights,” is a time to come together to celebrate the victory of light over darkness, love over hate, and kindness over evil. A moment to shine the light of every individual and collectively as a community.

This year, Chanukah is celebrated December 18-26. UNR is co-hosting two Chanukah Celebrations, one on December 19 at UNR Main Campus in Reno and a second on December 21 at UNR at Lake Tahoe in Incline Village. Both events welcome students, faculty, staff, and community members of all faiths and backgrounds to join in menorah lighting, donuts, latkes, dreidels, and more!

Both Chanukah Celebrations are supported by , who describe themselves as the “Jewish Heart of Campus.” For those not yet familiar with Chabad at UNR, they are a local Jewish resource run out of the warm and welcoming home of Rabbi Dani, Rochel, and young Devorah Libersohn.

Chabad at UNR is dedicated to providing every student, regardless of background, philosophy or level of commitment, an open door environment for strengthening and enhancing Jewish life on campus. Chabad at UNR serves individuals looking for an anchor and non-judgmental, accepting, personalized Jewish experience.

From the start of the acquisition of UNR at Lake Tahoe Prim Campus on July 1, 2022, diversity, equity, and inclusion have been at the center of the new campus efforts. This inaugural Chanukah Celebration and menorah lighting is another signal that UNR honors, welcomes, and celebrates people of all backgrounds and identities. We look forward to establishing the menorah lighting as an annual event that strengthens the UNR Jewish community.

Please, join us in celebrating the light amongst the darkness:

  • Monday, December 19, at 6 p.m., UNR Main Campus, Gateway Plaza in front of Joe Crowley Student Union
