Helping students overcome barriers to higher education

Our mission is to help students who will be the first in their families to complete a baccalaureate degree, and income-qualified students to overcome class, social and academic barriers to higher education. We believe all students should have an equal opportunity to prepare for, attend and graduate from college.

Our programs

Child Care Access Mean Parents in School (CCAMPIS)

Supports income-qualified parents enrolled in post-secondary education through the provision of quality, affordable and accessible campus-based child care and other academic services to assist with degree attainment.

First in the Pack

A program designed to help first-generation and/or Pack Promise+ college students obtain a college degree by meeting their academic, social and career goals.

Fostering the Pack

Helps college students who have experienced foster care through the state of Nevada after the age of 13 and are under 26 obtain a college degree.

TRIO Scholars and TRIO STEM Scholars

Assists income-qualified, first-generation 推荐杏吧原创 students to overcome the cultural, academic, class and socioeconomic barriers to success in higher education through services provided during their entire college career.

McNair Scholars

Provides research opportunities and other related academic experiences that promote the acquisition of the doctoral degree for first generation, low-income, and underrepresented 推荐杏吧原创 juniors and seniors.

Upward Bound Classic & Upward Bound Math + Science

Supports first-generation, income-qualified students at eight target high schools with free college prep services, fostering skills for successful postsecondary education. UBMS focuses on math and science to promote pursuing degrees in those fields.

Diversity, equity and inclusion statement for the First-Generation Student Center

Federally funded TRIO programs supporting the academic success of first-generation and income-qualified students originate from President Lyndon B. Johnson’s unconditional war on poverty legislation. All programs administered by the First-Generation Student Center at the 推荐杏吧原创 actively support a diverse and inclusive campus culture. We acknowledge that diversity in all of its forms makes for a stronger and healthier University.
