What will I learn in a biochemistry and molecular biology degree program?

Biochemists study how chemical processes affect cells - the building blocks of all life on earth. Understanding how cells and chemical processes work is fundamental to scientific advancements in human health, disease treatment, advanced agriculture and more. 

Your major may include biology- and chemistry-based courses such as:

  • Introduction to Cell and Molecular Biology
  • Principles of Genetics
  • Metabolic Regulation
  • Organic Chemistry for Scientists and Engineers
  • Biophysical Chemistry
  • Biochemical Analysis

You'll take courses in related scientific and mathematical fields such as physics, calculus and statistical methods. To round out your education, you'll also complete a senior thesis, a project that comprises independent laboratory research and a written report on the findings.
