Agriculture, Veterinary, & Range Science Ambassadors

Ambassadors

The ambassadors are students who serve as the leadership and public relations team for the Agriculture, Veterinary & Range Sciences programs. The 2023-24 academic year is the new launch of this organization, which will work to promote the department to prospective students, alumni, industry and government partners, donors, and other stakeholders.

Joseph Burns

Veterinary Science and Wildlife Ecology

Hi! My name is Joseph Burns, and I'm a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, studying Veterinary Science and Wildlife Ecology & Conservation, with minors in Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry. This is my second year as an AVRS Ambassador, and I’m passionate about connecting with prospective students and helping them in any way I can. I am also part of Nevada Student Ambassadors, an organization on campus responsible for conducting tours and providing information about the campus to prospective students. Additionally, I’m involved with the Pre-Vet and Tennis clubs here at the University. Outside of school and extracurriculars, I enjoy hanging out with friends, going to the gym, and playing pickleball and tennis.

Veterinary Science

I am from southern Nevada and graduated from Arbor View High School. I am currently a junior at the 推荐杏吧原创, and am a first-generation college student.  So, college is new to me, but I would not have it any other way. In addition to being on the AVRS ambassador team, I am also a student ambassador for the university.  This allows me to show prospective students around campus and talk about potential programs of study. After college, I plan to get my veterinary technician license, gain industry experience, and later go to veterinary school to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I have shadowed veterinarians and I love this field of study. I have a strong passion for helping animals and I love learning about them here at the University.

Graham Holton

Animal & Rangeland Sciences

I am a Master’s student of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at the 推荐杏吧原创. With a strong interest in sustainable agriculture and rangeland management, my research focuses on the use of cattle for fecal seeding in degraded rangelands and the impact that wildland fires pose on communities at large. My previous role as a farm supervisor provided me with practical, hands-on experience in large-scale organic farming as well as conventional agronomic practices. In the future, I aim to contribute to the development of innovative land management practices that enhance both agricultural productivity and environmental resilience, while advocating for sustainable farming techniques that support American rural communities.

Rangeland Ecology and Management

I am an undergraduate student; my major is rangeland ecology and management, with a minor in statistics. While I have been a student at the 推荐杏吧原创, I have had numerous opportunities, such as working in the Stringham Rangeland Ecology Lab on campus and being president of the Student Chapter for the Society of Range Management. These opportunities have enhanced my experience as a student all the while preparing me for my future. After I graduate, I strive to find a job in rangeland ecology and management overseas, later pursuing a master's or doctorate.

Katarina McClure

Veterinary Science

I am a third-year student from Southern Nevada and a first-generation college student majoring in Veterinary Science with a minor in Chemistry. In addition to being an AVRS ambassador, I am also an undergraduate teaching assistant for biology labs and tutor general biology. I have developed a strong interest in pharmacy and currently work as a board-certified pharmacy technician. I am excited to connect with prospective students about the university and their interest in the AVRS programs. My goal is to inspire students to challenge themselves and help them find their passion. After graduation, I look forward to continuing my education, either in veterinary school or pharmacy school.

Agricultural Science

I am a third-year student majoring in agriculture science with a plant emphasis, minoring in rangeland ecology. My love for plants blossomed as a child, grew while attending Elko High School and is now flourishing at the University of Nevada. While attending the University of Nevada, I’ve had opportunities to continue my journey by being an officer in the student chapter for the Society of Range Management, and a mentor for incoming students.

Sarah Perry

NevadaTeach; Agricultural Sciences and Secondary Education

I am from California and in my last year at the 推荐杏吧原创, pursuing secondary education and agricultural science studies. My goal is to become a high school agricultural teacher and FFA advisor, with a focus on educating the next generation of agriculturalists. Not only am I one of the ambassadors for the Agriculture, Veterinary & Rangeland Sciences department, but I also work as a peer mentor for the NevadaTeach Program in the College of Education an active member in the NevadaTeach STEM Club and Society of Range Management student organization. I have always loved the western industry and will continue to advocate for agriculture as I pursue my goals. Go Pack!

Veterinary Science

This is my first year serving as an AVRS ambassador, however, it’s my last year at the 推荐杏吧原创. I will be graduating with a degree in veterinary science in the summer of 2025. As a first-generation college student, I am beyond excited to graduate and further my education in the veterinary field. I feel honored to represent not only University but the AVRS program as well. I’m also interested in environmental sciences and human medicine and how they intersect with the vet field. UNR has allowed me to explore my passion for the world while making a difference. I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer with underrepresented human and animal communities, aid in ecological research and fieldwork, and help new students transition into college.

Isabelle Robinet

Animal & Rangeland Sciences

I am a senior currently studying animal science at the 推荐杏吧原创. My goal is to graduate and pursue my career in animal medicine by going to veterinary school. I love to travel and learn about life outside of what I know. I am hoping after graduation to move to Dublin Ireland to do just that!
