Summary
Carolina Rocha Becerra was born and raised in Guanajuato, Mexico. When she moved to the United States as an adult, she became aware of the inequalities affecting disadvantaged populations and the increasing need for resources for the Spanish-speaking community in healthcare. Working as a pharmacy technician and phlebotomist, she encountered numerous situations where families were underserved due to the language barrier.
Rocha Becerra's background in chemistry and chemical engineering exposed her to the lack of Hispanic representation in STEM fields. She strongly believes that representation and sense of belonging can profoundly impact students of all ages, significantly influencing their university experience.
As a first-generation immigrant, Rocha Becerra is inspired every day to strive toward achieving her goals, knowing that she has the opportunity to make a difference and help her community. Being part of the Community of Bilingual English-Spanish speakers is an honor for Rocha Becerra because it allows her to provide the tools and support that she didn’t have access to as a student. Rocha Becerra is excited about the prospect of making a meaningful impact because, in the faces of those she assist, she sees reflections of her own journey.
