Summary
Debera Thomas has a passion for nursing and has a reputation for building collaborative relationships. She comes to University of Nevada Reno as Dean of the Orvis School of Nursing from Northern Arizona University where she was the Dean of the School of Nursing and Interim Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Her nursing career spans decades in both teaching and clinical practice as an RN and FNP/ANP.
She earned her doctoral degree in nursing from the State University of New York at Buffalo, her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Northern Illinois University and her nurse practitioner certificates from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
She maintains an active research agenda and is currently working with a group of researchers in Flagstaff, AZ examining the effects of a plant based nutritional plan. She is also an author of a major textbook for nurse practitioners, “Primary Care: The Art and Science of Advanced Practice Nursing” with the 5th edition in revision.
