Happy Nevada Day!
October 24, 2024
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
Happy Nevada Day, Wolf Pack! This is one of the most beautiful times on our campus. I hope you are all taking good care of one another and are finding the right personal balance with studies and work responsibilities as we move into the last days of October, which include the Nevada Day Holiday.
Nevada officially became our nation’s 36th state on Oct. 31, 1864. It is worth noting that our University is only 10 years younger than Nevada — we were founded on Oct. 12, 1874 in Elko. This provides a meaningful and long-lasting connection between our state and its original land-grant institution. Each Nevada Day Holiday provides us all with an opportunity to take stock of why both the history of our state and our University are linked forever.
Nevada Day is a time for all Nevadans to come together. Whether one lives in northern or southern Nevada, at the base of the Ruby Mountains in Elko, in Tonopah or the majestic shadow of Great Basin National Park in Ely, and everywhere in between, we are a state where our varied geography and diversity are what make Nevada special and unique.
I hope we all use the Nevada Day Weekend as a time to celebrate our great state and remember that the promise of Nevada has always been one of opportunity, support for each other, and strength as we move forward to our next great tomorrow.
Happy Nevada Day!
Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
President
