Acknowledge and reflect on Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 1-7
October 03, 2023
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
October is an important time for all of us to acknowledge and reflect on an important observance - Mental Illness Awareness Week which runs through Oct. 7. This is a good time for all of us to check in with ourselves and with the people we know. Caring about mental health means that no individual should ever feel they are alone. In fact, being part of the Wolf Pack Family means that we all need to care for one another, and that we are invested in each other’s success. We are grateful for the students, faculty and staff at our Institution who are working on a daily basis to help reduce stigma, build community and advocate for campus resources that foster well-being and understanding for mental health.
The University has a number of resources that are available to help. Counseling Services offer therapy and psychological services for students; the Downing Counseling Clinic (through the College of Education and Human Development) offers therapy services for students, faculty and staff; and the Employee Assistance Program is available for faculty and staff. The University’s LiveWell program is also available to help you prioritize your well-being and navigate campus resources that are available to help you do so.
The month of October is one of the most beautiful transitional months we have in northern Nevada. Let this first week in October – and all of the weeks that are still to come throughout this semester – be a time where we reach out when we need help, and where our entire campus community is defined by care, connection and compassion.
Go Pack!
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
President
