Celebrating the retirement of Vic Redding, Vice President of Administration and Finance
May 22, 2023
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
It is with hearty congratulations and some degree of sadness that I announce the retirement of our Vice President for Administration and Finance, Vic Redding, at the end of the fiscal year. By the time of his retirement, Vic will have served six years in this role at the University and over 22 years total with the Nevada System of Higher Education.
As a proud alumnus of our MBA program (class of 2000), Vic started work almost immediately after graduation with the School of Medicine, ultimately progressing to Acting Chief Financial Officer in 2003. In early 2005 he transitioned to the NSHE Chancellor’s Office and held a few roles before being appointed as Vice Chancellor - Finance in 2012. Many of you will recall those were difficult years for the State’s budget. Vic spent countless days in Carson City educating legislators on the financial situation at NSHE and developed several creative solutions to mitigate budget reductions during the Great Recession.
In 2017, former University President Marc Johnson offered Vic the opportunity to “come home” to his roots with the Wolf Pack Family and he has been our Administration and Finance Vice President ever since. Having started his time at our University as a student, Vic has never forgotten our reason for being here and always maintained his steadfast commitment and uncompromising belief in the transformational power of high-quality, forward-thinking public post-secondary education.
Vic was instrumental in the University’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, including navigating complex and evolving pandemic-related budget cuts and federal CARES Act funds. As Vic brings his time at our beloved University to a close, I’m especially appreciative of his financial leadership through one more Session of the Legislature as well as his commitment to see through the Mathewson University Gateway Public/Private Partnership, including the new College of Business and hotel/conference center.
Please join me in recognizing Vic’s dedication and thanking him for his extraordinary service and commitment to the University and higher education in Nevada. I wish him all the best as he transitions into this next, and well-deserved, chapter of his journey.
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
President
