Message regarding earthquakes in Turkey and Syria
Dear Wolf Pack Family,
The devastating earthquakes centered in southern Turkey and neighboring northern Syria have led to the loss of thousands of lives, as well thousands of injuries and the displacement of entire neighborhoods and communities. The extent of the damage and the number of lives lost may not be fully known for weeks. The latest estimate from the World Health Organization indicates that as many as 23 million people, as well as 1.4 million children, have been impacted.
Our University has many students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends who are from Turkey and Syria, and who have friends and family who are still living in these countries. We want all of the members of The Wolf Pack Family who are from Turkey and Syria to know that we are here for you, and that we support you during this tragic time.
We have several resources on our campus that can help. The Office of International Students and Scholars can provide information and resources for the members of our international community. Counseling Services offer therapy and psychological services for students; the Downing Counseling Clinic (through the College of Education and Human Development) offer therapy services for students, faculty and staff; and the Employee Assistance Program is available for faculty and staff.
We stand ready to help all Wolf Pack Family members who are from Turkey or Syria in any way we can. We are here to help all of you navigate this devastating and tragic event. Our prayers are with the people of Turkey and Syria, as well as with those who are from these countries who live, work and study in northern Nevada — all members of our Wolf Pack Family.
Sincere regards,
Brian Sandoval
