Around 70 high-achieving high school students and their families met with recruiters and faculty at the College of Engineering during the University’s “Best and Brightest” event Jan. 24. Engineering’s research and scholarship opportunities, student services and more were discussed, and students also toured various Engineering departments.
“We had a large turnout of high-achieving students,” Julia Lapham, Engineering recruitment and outreach coordinator, said. “We were really excited to showcase our amazing college.”
Lapham and Associate Dean Indira Chatterjee spoke to the students, chosen for the event based on their GPAs or test scores or their matches with National Merit Scholar criteria. Associate Dean Brandon Weeks and Career Services Director Joe Bozsik were on hand to address questions before students toured the College department that aligned with their area of interest. Engineering has five departments: Chemical & Materials Engineering; Civil & Environmental Engineering; Computer Science & Engineering; Electrical & Biomedical Engineering; and Mechanical Engineering.
