The Association of American State Geologists is holding their annual meeting in the Sierras this year, hosted by the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. The chief executives of each of the state geological surveys will be meeting at the Tahoe Ridge Resort from June 12 through June 16.

While the functions of each state’s geological survey may differ slightly, each geological survey serves as a basic information source for local, state, and federal agencies, mineral and energy industries, and basic and applied research. The annual meeting brings representatives together to discuss issues of common interest and initiate united actions when warranted.
The meeting kicked off today and will include technical sessions, field trips and keynote addresses by invited speakers from science, energy, environment and policy. The meeting offers numerous optional field trips, including a field trip featuring Nevada’s hydrothermal sites. Author of the book "The Bonanza King: John Mackay and the Battle Over the Greatest Riches in the American West" Gregory Crouch will speak at the event's closing reception.
