The public is invited to register for the free interactive and family-friendly Field Day event at the ÍƼöÐÓ°ÉÔ´´'s Main Station Field Lab. It provides an opportunity to learn about the University's outreach programs and resources as well as their current research. Registration is required prior to attending the event.
Field Day is a collaborative project between the University's College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources, Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. The theme for this year's event is "Feed the World. Protect the Planet." The exhibits will focus on droughts, wildfires, nutrition and local food production.
The Field Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 5895 Clean Water Way, near the intersection of South McCarran Boulevard and Mill Street. It will include master gardener demonstrations, farm tours, wildlife tracking exhibits and more.
"The University has a strong tradition as a land-grant University of connecting with stakeholders and the community through research and outreach," Ron Pardini, associate director of the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station, said. "Field day is a chance to show the different programs and resources we have to offer. This year's Field Day will be fun because the new dean of CABNR, Bill Payne, has worked hard to make the event more interactive for the general public."
There will be a children's section with educational science and hands-on 4-H biotechnology activities. Additionally, adults can sample Nevada produced wines and a barbecue lunch will be available for purchase from Wolf Pack Meats. The public will also be able to tour Wolf Pack Meats and learn about its activities and the facility.
Field Day is free and open to the public. Free parking is available. For more information and to register, visit http://ag.unr.edu/fieldday/.
