Nominate the next employee of the month

Brock Young, organic chemistry stockroom manager and staff research associate for the Department of Chemistry in the College of Science, has been named April's Employee of the Month by the Staff Employees Council.
Young began his time as a Staff Research Associate III for the Department of Chemistry in 2011. In that time, according to his supervisor, Brady Janes, Young has "repeatedly demonstrated his exceptional work ethic and a great attitude towards everyone he meets."
"Brock takes his responsibilities as the stockroom manager for the organic and analytical teaching laboratories very seriously," Janes wrote in his nomination letter for Young. "Since moving into DMSC, the lab experiments, instrumentation and equipment were updates and Brock has been the 'go to' guy for troubleshooting instrumentation, setting up equipment, and communicating safety considerations for the labs. He can always be found in his stockroom prepping for the upcoming labs or in the lab rooms working through procedures or fixing instruments."
Janes said Young's work has extended beyond the stockroom: "I perform many chemistry demonstration shows for elementary and middle school students throughout the years and Brock has helped me prepare and taken the lead over several of the shows. I would not be surprised if, because of Brock's involvement in and enthusiasm for science outreach, several students from the presentations not only will remember the scientific process, but also will be future students of the UNR."
Sarah Cummings, senior lecturer and organic chemistry coordinator for the Department of Chemistry, added that Young "makes things happen and makes it easy for my colleagues and I to do our jobs well."
"His enthusiasm and superb organizational skills have also been very helpful to encourage faculty to incorporate more demonstrations into their lectures," Cummings wrote. "I know that I would not be able to find the time to incorporate many demonstrations into my classes without his support ... He is an exemplary employee: personable, always available, dependable, diligent, generous, and works hard to make an impact both in the department and the broader community."
