Jimmie Manning (Ph.D., University of Kansas) is Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the 推荐杏吧原创. He is known for his research exploring interpersonal and family relationships, his innovative approaches to service learning, and his extensive service to the field of Communication Studies.

Dr. Manning’s research focuses on meaning-making in relationships. This research spans interpersonal, organizational, political, and media communication to understand how individuals, couples, families, organizations and other cultural institutions attempt to define, support, control, limit, encourage or otherwise negotiate relationships. He explores these ideas through three contexts: relational discourses, especially those about sexuality, gender, love and identity; connections between relationships and efficacy in health and organizational contexts; and digitally mediated communication. His research has been supported by funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation and Learn & Serve America and he has accrued over 100 publications in outlets including Communication Monographs, Journal of Social and Personal Relationships and Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication.

When not focused on academic work, Dr. Manning loves to spend time with his spouse and pets, traveling and attending concerts. He is also involved with several community service organizations.
Dr. Manning is a member of the graduate faculty and is currently accepting graduate students.
