Rangeland Ecology & Management
Outstanding Senior
The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes graduating students who have excelled academically and have improved leadership in our College.
Mattie Johns was born and raised in rural Nevada. Her interest in rangeland ecology and management runs deep, as she has grown up riding horseback in the desert and helping with her family’s ranching operation. She is a dedicated and organized student, always working ahead and at the top of her class. Mattie has boundless energy for both her professional tasks and her extra-curricular activities. In her spare time, Mattie can be found training horses, growing vegetables, identifying wildflowers, and competing in rodeos across the west. She is an uncommon student and ecologist that lives and breathes her chosen line of work, which will ensure her success. The skills developed in her personal and work life complement each-other perfectly, and have yielded a bright, thoughtful, and effective professional. Mattie is now working for the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Fallon, Nevada. Her future is bright, and Nevada is lucky to have her start her career as a natural resource professional.
