Honorable Mention Environmental Science
Outstanding Senior
The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes graduating students who have excelled academically and have improved leadership in our College.
Congratulations to Ruthie Griggs, receiving an Honorable Mention for our Environmental Science Outstanding Senior award! Ruthie majored in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Ecological Restoration and Conservation (B.S.). She also minored in Ecohydrology and Forest Ecology & Management and is a UNR Presidential Scholar. Ruthie participated in the Honors Program and recently completed her honors thesis, 鈥淚nfluence of Seed Size Differentiation between Populations and Generations of Chaneactis douglasii on Germination Timing,鈥 under the mentorship of Dr. Elizabeth Leger. Ruthie was also a student worker in Dr. Leger鈥檚 lab, assisting with research projects on plant ecology and population biology. She spent one summer on a USAC program at Massey University in New Zealand, and while in New Zealand she interned at a local biodynamic farm. Summer of 2020 Ruthie worked as a stream bioassessment technician for the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection. In addition to her academic, internship and research pursuits, Ruthie competed with the UNR Rock Climbing club and enjoys a variety of outdoor adventures. After graduation Ruthie plans to work with Great Basin Institute and the USFS as a botany technician in the Truckee area. Her longer-term plans include graduate school.
