Summary

Dr. Julie A. Hogan is an associate professor at the University of Nevada Reno's College of Business and the Coordinator of the Gaming Minor. Hogan earned her doctoral degree at the University of Nevada Las Vegas in Sociology. She earned her master's degree at the University of California Chico. She has spent 30 years in the substance abuse prevention field, has amassed a whopping 38 million dollars in grants and contracts, and has three textbook publications. Hogan teaches a gaming leadership course for the College of Business.

For 30 years, Hogan has been deeply engaged in the topic of culture. Over the past ten years, she has been embracing diversity through the framework of cultural humility. In August of 2015 she met a business student who changed her life. After experiencing some socially rich observations in the classroom, Hogan accepted a gift that changed the way she views American culture and herself.

Dr. Hogan is an accomplished grant writer, public speaker, and applied sociologist. She has a number of public speaking keynote presentations and workshops she gives to interested audiences. Topics include the "20 Secrets to Writing a Successful Grant Applications", "Substance Abuse Prevention - Past, Present, and Future", "Cultural Humility", "The Tale of Two Robes", and "Gaming Leadership - What it Really Takes to Succeed". Hogan believes that the American social space we all share presents very interesting lessons if we open ourselves to its voice.

Hogan's book publications include "Substance Abuse Prevention: The Intersection of Science and Practice", "Substance Abuse Prevention: The Changing Face of an Emerging Profession" and "Cannabis Country: The Legalization of Marijuana in America". In all these books, Hogan talks about the importance of culture which spans a variety of settings.
