Summary

Monica Maccaux has over 14 years of experience in the design and advertising industries. She has a BFA in communications design with a concentration in graphic design and an art history minor from Pratt Institute of the Arts in Brooklyn New York. She has her MFA in graphic design from Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles, with a focus on typeface design. Her thesis project was a typeface designed for the sport of triathlon, named "Tri-type." "Motorix," a typeface designed in grad school, is now available to purchase from PSY/OPS Type Foundry in San Francisco.

She has worked with clients ranging from small businesses to fortune 500 companies. Some of these include Chase, Reebok, Novo Nordisk, Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, Borgata Hotel & Casino and Evite/Postmark to name a few. Her current interests are working on branding projects and designing typefaces, as well as teaching. With experience with a large array of clientele, Maccaux brings a diverse knowledge of markets and customer needs and is a highly versatile designer because of this. She has worked with world-class type designers, creative directors and award-winning agencies and has a robust portfolio of work and insight into the field of graphic design. She brings real-world expertise of ideation, theory and methods to her design practice and well as to the classroom.

Research interests

She is interested in the evolution of typography and language-from Bodoni to Helvetica-and where it is going in the modern age: Emoji, slang, abbreviations. How does a typeface influence the audience? What can language look like now, and what will it look like in 100 years?
