Bobby Lee was born and raised in the suburban sprawl of Southern California and studied photography at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where he discovered his passion for hiking, nature and the beauty of wild places and sunsets. After a period of non-art related work, Bobby quit his job to travel and pursue photography full time. From 2016 he lived and traveled seasonally between the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Mojave desert before joining the MFA program at the University of Nevada Reno in 2021.
Artist's statement
I’m a landscape photographer who uses book arts to create personal viewing experiences that reveal or offer a new perspective of nature, landscape, or place. I’m interested in how we relate to nature and the landscape and I investigate this through a process of personal exploration of a place, usually on foot, over a period of time. Walking, the passage of time and physically experiencing a place is an important part of my process and the creation of books is an expression of that experience that can be shared with others.
