2,060: Employee Designations and Time Off for Business Continuity During Unexpected or Extraordinary Circumstances (Coronavirus)

The University must continue operations in the event of an unexpected or extraordinary circumstances. Every effort will be made to maintain normal operations for academic, research, creative, community and engagement activities. In the event an incident that disrupts normal business process and prevents any employee from accessing their normal work areas the following protocols will be implemented.

Funding

Salaries and benefits for employees will be paid from the funding source charged prior to the unexpected or extraordinary circumstance. If funds are unavailable to pay the employee from the usual account, the supervisor should work with the management chain to identify an appropriate account or determine if the position should be laid off. NSHE, University and State policies related to notice periods for terminating employees must be followed. It may become necessary to stop paying salaries and benefits due to lack of funding, regardless of funding source.

Employee Designations

In the event of a disruption in normal operations, each employee will be assigned one of the following designations.

Employees on Campus

Employees whose job functions must be performed on campus to keep the campus safe and to protect against loss or undue hardship for university employees. Examples of these positions may include but are not limited to: employees working in research labs, animal facilities, facilities services, residential life, enrollment, information technology, student support and police services.

Employees Working Remotely

Employees whose job functions must be performed to maintain education and/or business continuity, or to protect against loss or undue hardship for University employees. Examples of these positions may include but are not limited to: employees working in business and finance functions, human resources, residential life, enrollment, information technology, student support, research services, development and administration personnel.

Employees on Administrative Leave

Employees who are not required to be on campus, cannot perform their duties without appropriate social distancing and are not able to perform their normal jobs remotely will be placed on administrative leave and will enter Administrative Leave Time Off with Pay-Coronavirus Time in Workday.

Employees do not have to perform work, but they must be available to work while on administrative leave. Employees must continue to be available if called to perform work while on Administrative Leave Time Off with Pay. Employees may be reassigned or be directed to perform tasks outside of their normal departments or units. If an employee is unavailable for work, annual leave, sick leave or leave without pay must be taken.
